The department of Zoology was established in the year 1989. Graduation (B.Sc.) and Master (M.Sc.) level classes are being conducted in the department. B.Sc. was started in 1989 whereas M.Sc. (Zoology) has been started from 2021 with 30 seats. The main aim of the zoology department is to include the highest value of life science education, respect for nature and concern for ethical values among students through good and scientific educational practices. It is important to the students for the contemporary advance in life science and also a global perspective and such skills among students that benefit humanity. It is important for appreciation in the field of organisms. The Department is well equipped with modern equipment for behavioural, ecological, hematological, molecular and histopathological studies. Artificial ecosystem, Aquarium and insect collection box are the main attraction of the department. Department has a separate smart classroom and laboratory with all required equipment.


        Zoology is the study of living organisms, specifically animals. Zoologists study multiple species in a certain ecosystem, population interactions, and specific species or behaviors. They collect, and analyze data in labs or outdoor environments. It has been the foremost centre for learning in all aspects of Animal Sciences. This course is about animals –their evolution and diversity, and the methods we use to study them. It will give you an overview of how the form, function and behaviour of animals are adapted to their lifestyle and their environment. The B.Sc. (3 years course) and M.Sc. (2 years course) comprises sections in Animal behaviour, Ecology, Insect Biology, Fisheries biology, Aquaculture, Vertebrate Evolutionary Biology, Endocrinology, Physiology, Immunology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics etc.
